My New Net
I love my net. But...there comes a time when a man needs another. It's an issue that I've struggled with for a long time. As for my old net....I mean no disrespect. No loss of loyalty. No less love. Yes, even I sometimes need something bigger. Why? Amazingly, even moi, catches the occasional, albeit rarely, large fish.
I briefly considered a composite net, now the rage. More eco friendly? Really? Where does carbon fiber come from?
Aluminum? No way. Butt ugly. Trout deserve better.
Loyal to local business, I’m lucky to have a fine netsmith in my back yard. So, back to Blue Ribbon Nets it was. I knew what I wanted, a Jacklin, large of course. It was just a matter of picking the combination of woods. Ever own a fine shotgun? How about a custom longbow? There’s nothing like a piece of of wood that’s been finely crafted into a working tool for a hunter or fisher.
I love my new net. My only complaint is that most of the fish that I catch from here on out will look small. My old net? It's been refinished, and, fitted with a new net bag. You can bet that it will be pressed into action when I want small fry to look like whoppers!
